the way this state by state polls show, americans think the economy is starting to improve the economy is slowly starting to get better. i think that breaks the president's way. i think if he holds his own in the next two debates, i think it's going to be very close, but he's got a better than 50% chance of eking it out. it's going to be harder for him to be more aggressive in a town hall setting. you remember back in 2000, when al gore said he was going to be tough on george w. bush. he walked over, and bush made the audience laugh. so they're going to have to be a lot more charming. which is going to be difficult for the president, who's hearing from his base. you've got to be tough on this guy. you've got to call him a liar. you've got to punch his lights out. but i think -- i think the president's going to be ready. >> do you think the obama camp has been effective at trying to prove mitt romney at being dishonest? >> no. that's just nonsense. we lost so he's a liar. you know, if mitt romney was wlieing so much, for 90 minutes, why couldn't the president call him out? >> well, that

we all hope the economy starts coming back around, that people get back to work. if you look at second quarter growth numbers this last year, those have been adjusted downward to 1.3%. you still have fuel prices of more than doubled since the president took office, health insurance costs are up 29%, college tuition up 25%. as i said earlier, incomes are down. and so we've got serious economic problems in this country that need to be addressed that aren't being addressed. we need to change the direction of the country. that's what a romney-ryan ticket will do is a different approach, it's not based upon the expansion of government in washington, d.c it's expanding the private economy where good paying jobs are really created, getting americans back to work, getting the economy growing again. and making it a more prosperous future for our children and grandchildren. i think you'll see great contrast and americans will have a very clear choice about two different visions for the future of this country. i believe that will come out very clearly in the debate this even

the economy was in free fall. we had a great recession hit. 9 million people lost their jobs. $1.6 trillion in wealth lost in equity in your homes and retirement accounts for the middle class. we knew we had to act for the middle class and we went out and rescued general motors. we made sure that we cut taxes for the middle class, and in addition to that, when that occurred, what did romney do? romney said no, let detroit go bankrupt. we moved in and helped people refinance their homes. governor romney said no, let foreclosures hit the bottom. but it shouldn't be surprising for a guy who says 47% of the american people are unwilling to take responsibility for their lives. my friend said 30% are takers. these people are my mom and dad, my neighbors. they pay more tax than governor romney pays. they are elderly people who in fact are living off of social security. there are veterans and people fighting in afghanistan right now who are, quote, not paying any taxes. i've had it up to here with this notion, 47% -- it's
